Bishop's Coat of Arms

Significance:  The shield depicts two of the most prominent Christian symbols: the Cross and the Eucharist.  On the left is the Tau Cross, of St.Francis of Assisi (the bishop's Patron Saint), rising from the stem of the banana plant, against the yellow background of the Caribbean Sun.  The Tau represents the Cross of Christ, the Christian symbol of triumph through suffering.  The banana plant represents the main stay of the Commonwealth of Dominica, his diocese.  It symbolizes the Eucharist, daily bread, which invites all to victory through self-sacrifice and service.  On the right the three peaks rising from the blue Caribbean Sea represent the mountainous nature of both the bishop's land of origin and his place of service.  They symbolize the tranquility and peace (PAX) that is possible when all come together in Christ.  Hence the motto: "All I want is to know Jesus Christ." (Phil. 3:10)
